Flute/Oboe and Bassoon
Flute/Oboe and Clarinet/(Bassoon)*
*Bassoon part is occasionally slightly more challenging, requiring E-flat in three of the tunes.
Clarinet in B-flat and Bassoon
Clarinet (Trumpet/Cornet) and Alto Saxophone
Both Play it 2gether sets can also be played by two B-flat clarinets. Part 2 for clarinet is a little more challenging than its saxophone equivalent, requiring upper register notes in certain tunes.
Possible instrument additions/substitutions
These easy duet items have been carefully selected and arranged to be easy for the woodwind combinations for which they are designed, with melody/interest distributed between the two parts. Some parts can also be played by other instruments, although these may prove a little more challenging, depending on the key and range of notes involved.
- Flute/Oboe parts are possible for Descant Recorder or Violin, provided the player is comfortable using B-flat and F natural.
- Bassoon parts can be attempted by Cellos. Again, the player needs to be comfortable with using B-flat (E-flat is also required in three of the pieces in the Simple Starters set)
- Part 1: Clarinet in the Play it 2gether set is designed also to be used by early-stage Trumpet/Cornet players.
Improver Duets
Flute (Oboe) and Clarinet in B-flat
Oboe (Flute) and Bassoon
Clarinet in B-flat and Bassoon
Possible instrument additions/substitutions
These improver duet items have been carefully selected and arranged to be reasonably straightforward for the woodwind combinations for which they were designed, with melody/interest distributed between the parts. Some instrument additions/substitutions are possible, although parts may then prove more challenging, depending on the key and range of notes involved.
- Flute/Oboe parts are possible for violin (or descant recorder) provided the player is comfortable using notes to D above the stave. Most are possible for treble recorder.
- Bassoon parts can be attempted on cello.
Intermediate Duets
Flute and Clarinet in B-flat
Oboe (Flute*) and Bassoon
*While playable on Flute, this part is relatively low, to suit oboe, so players may have to adjust dynamic levels in places to achieve a successful balance between the instruments.
Clarinet in B-flat and Bassoon
Possible instrument additions/substitutions
Not really recommended at intermediate level.
